Before the Age of Computers
Hi again to all reading this,
In my last post I said I hoped to be up and running again real soon. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen just as quickly as I would have liked and hoped. So I guess I’ll just have to make do with keeping on the way I am going. As I don’t have access to the Internet very much at all at the moment, the following is how I am keeping up with my blog at least, although everything else is just falling behind way back down the mountain.
What I am doing is writing my blog posts in windows notepad whenever I get the time to do so. It is a little more difficult as editing takes a while and I do not have the prior posts on the blog to refer back to whenever I need them. Once I have written my post I then try to put it into some sort of order that makes sense to me. When I am as satisfied with it as I can be the post is saved onto a new style Memory Stick. I have gone out and purchased a brand new Sandisk Extreme Cruzer Contour Flash Drive. This holds 8 GB of information and files and just plugs straight in to a USB 2.0 port on the front of my computer. Thank goodness for modern technology, at least I can now try and keep up within reason. What I then do is head off up to my sister’s house, plug the flash drive into my niece’s new laptop, copy over the information and hey presto I can now log into my blog on wordpress and publish it for the world to read.
I am not able to spend hours on the Internet by going about it this way so am unable to spend time researching or surfing for much needed information. However it’s better than nothing and gives me time to think and maybe do a little planning. That thinking time set me upon wondering what I did before I ever had a computer a few short years ago. So here is what I remembered I used to spend quite a large amount of time doing.!
I use to read an enormous amount of books. Indeed whenever I wanted to find out about any project that interested me I either sometimes went to the library, although generally that wasn’t my thing. Mainly I would buy a book on the subject from a bookshop if I could find what I wanted. Better still though, I would browse around the junk shops and charity shops looking at all the old cheap books on offer and just purchase any book at all that took my fancy. You would be surprised at what you can find in these places for just a few pence.
Another great source to find books is at boot sales and jumble sales, or even at garage sales that you come across when passing people’s houses on a weekend. Just stop to take a look at what other people get rid of for next to nothing, especially if they are moving house and do not want to take too much of their old stuff with them. Inevitably what they are selling has been gathering dust for years. Old books are a real source of information for fantastically cheap and ridiculous prices. You can come across them all over the place, occassionally in very large quantities, especially if you are at craft fairs and the like.
This set me to thinking. Can I put any of these books to good use in my marketing and Internet course on the computer? I have often seen other’s advertising old books on ebay and other auction sites, just to get rid of them, so there must be some sort of market out there for books of any kind containing a wealth of information on a phenominal range of subjects. Because of my current Internet Broadband problem I am obviously unable to do too much research at the present, but as soon as I am up and running again I will be seriously taking a look around as many sites as possible. I have convinced myself that a market exists for old books and if I can find a way to let you in on the secret then I will be doing so.
There has got to be a niche for us all in this vast book market, which I have now realised is just waiting to be taken from the past and put to amazing use in the present and future. I am convinced I can find the market. Therefore over the coming weeks and months ahead I hope to be able to give you the instructions on how to profit from your own niche just through staying with me on this blog. Books thoughout the ages have been published on magical amounts of subjects and I for one can think of many. Here are just a few of the subjects you could be interested in:… … Crafts, Health, Wealth, Keep Fit, Weightloss, Sex, Investment, DIY, Remedies for Illness, Recipies, Art, Photography, Travel, History, Philosophy, Religion, Science, War, Children’s stories, Plans… for almost anything you can design and build such as; Houses, gardens, bird cages, dog kennels, trailers, go carts, seats, tables, conservatories, children’s toys, furniture, etc. etc. etc to name just a few for now.
As you can see I might be off the Internet temporarily, but I am not being idle and I am still trying to keep up to date. Watch this space for more.
That Mountain is very high but I will not give up and neither I hope will you. Life is full of challenges waiting to be taken and overcome. The only way you can meet them and win is to just keep on climbing one step at a time.
If you want to know more about old books I have recently found a great place here where there is an unbelievable amount of information to be obtained and I thoroughly recommend it to all my readers.
Bye for now until next time I am able to get back on the Internet.
Dave.
