Can You Learn Affiliate Marketing in a Day?

If you spend any time looking for ways to make money online, you will be nearly overwhelmed with information about affiliate marketing. Marketers will tell you that it is the fastest way to start earning an income from home. But how long does it really take to learn affiliate marketing? As you will see, this question has no easy answer.

Way too many so called experts are trying to sell you their latest internet marketing tools. Almost all of them will hype their product with inflated claims that may lead you to believe that you can quit your day job next week and retire if you just buy their product. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s just not going to happen.

Now I’m not saying that you can’t learn affiliate marketing quickly if you really apply yourself. However, it’s just like any other skill you may try to learn. It can’t be understood and put to practical use by just reading a book. You have to understand many different aspects of online business before you can hope to start earning some serious money.

Think of it like this: Do you think for one moment that you could learn how to swim by reading some article or book written by Michael Phelps? I mean, he may be the greatest swimmer ever, and he may give you some great advice, but you’re the one that has to jump into the pool and get wet. And you better start at the shallow end of the pool or else you’ll drown.

The same principle applies to affiliate marketing. In order to be successful, you need to work at developing the necessary skills required to make money online. If you just read a book and jump into the deep end of the internet pool without knowing what you’re doing, you’re just setting yourself up to fail.

So how much time will you need to learn affiliate marketing well enough to keep from drowning? I can only speak from personal experience of course, but I would recommend that you not expect any kind of profit for at least two months. In fact, you will more than likely lose money at first.

Sound depressing? It shouldn’t, if you stop and consider how long it takes to learn any kind of new skill. You didn’t learn how to drive a car overnight, did you? And any accidents you had while learning that skill were probably a lot more expensive than the mistakes you may commit in the online world.

If you are determined to work hard and keep an open mind, you can learn affiliate marketing in less time than you may think. It won’t happen in a day, so set reasonable goals for yourself. Don’t expect miracles, and you’ll be less likely to get frustrated and quit.
